Starting with an involvement on the original Leeds scheme, the clients first outside their flagship London shop, set within the ornate and well-established Victorian shopping arcades and specifically the creation of the main facade to the store which won several local and regional Civic awards, they wanted to look several years later, to develop the rooftop restaurant further, to increase its size and visibility from Briggate, the main City Centre shopping street. Taking inspiration from the proportions and concept of the existing architecture, set on a larger footprint for the restaurant was developed through altering the existing roofscape and when coupled with a new articulated facade and ceiling, the proposal looked to draw attention from street level to the restaurant’s presence set against the existing roof line. Enhanced with feature lighting and new internal concepts, the design created a new dynamic impression and destination dining venue for the client within the wider redeveloped and extended Victoria Quarter. Working closely with the Leeds City Council Planning and Listed Building Officers, the proposals were developed together, for the sensitive site and location, culmination in the gaining of the necessary permissions and approvals.
